Wisdom teeth are the four permanent molars located in the back of the mouth. Some people have no wisdom teeth and some have more than four, although it is rare.
If your wisdom teeth are happy, healthy, have grown in completely and are positioned properly, that means you can probably take care of them with normal daily dental hygiene practices. If that’s the case, you don’t need to have your wisdom teeth removed.
If, on the other hand, your wisdom teeth didn’t grow in all the way or are not positioned correctly, it may make more sense to have them removed by your dentist or oral surgeon.
Extraction of wisdom teeth can be done with local anesthetic in the dental office or in more complex cases, you may be referred to the oral surgeon to have them removed with IV sedation.
If you think you need to have your wisdom teeth removed, or you have any questions about the process, don’t think twice about getting in touch with Brightside Dental Clinic in Saskatoon. We’re here to help.
